I freaking DESPISE mom guilt. In fact, hearing other women talk about it is a trigger for me. I get mad because WHEN did we start to believe that taking care of ourselves means we are neglecting our loved ones?
Ya know how the flight attendant announces the importance of securing your own oxygen mask before helping others with theirs? Yeah. That analogy holds true in the adventures of MOTHERHOOD, also.
Want to know what I think you should feel guilty about? Instead of feeling bad for taking time away from your children to focus on self-care, FEEL BAD that your kids are not getting the best version of YOU because YOU’RE NOT TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF!
HOW DO YOU FEEL:
1- when you don’t exercise?
2- when you don’t get enough sleep?
3- when you eat processed food?
4- when you’re wearing worn-out old clothes that don’t fit?
5- when you haven’t cut or colored your hair in six months?
This quote from T. Harv Eker says it all. “How you do anything is how you do everything.”
Therefore, making a routine of self-care opens the door to seize complete control of your life. When you eat right and exercise, even when you don't feel like it, you begin to wrap your head around how one healthy habit can lead to huge positive changes in your life. And soon, you begin to develop healthy habits in other areas of your life, too.
Taking care of yourself IS VITAL to your success as a mother, an employee, a student, an entrepreneur, a leader, a partner, a creator, and is THE KEY to becoming the strongest version of yourself.
Repeat after me. I CANNOT BE SUCCESSFUL IN ANY AREA OF MY LIFE UNLESS I AM TAKING CARE OF MY NEEDS. Self-care is NOT selfish. It is NECESSARY.
So, STOP IT ALREADY with the mom guilt and start making yourself a priority TODAY.
